Looking for new bath towels? Shop Weezie!

A little while ago, our co-founder Liz Eichholz sat down with House Beautiful to give her pro tips on all things towels: how to wash them, when to wash them, and knowing when it’s time to swap them out for new ones. During that conversation, Liz mentioned her secret to keeping plush towels smelling fresh: a little white vinegar and baking soda. Since then, we’ve heard from so many of you asking for the step-by-step, so we thought we’d put together a guide! Enjoy :-)

Products Needed:
1 cup of white distilled vinegar and an optional ½ cup of baking soda.

  1. Give your towels a wash in warm water with 1 cup of white vinegar.
TIP: You should pour the vinegar into the fabric softener compartment if your washer has one, so it goes in during the final rinse cycle. If your washer doesn’t have a spot for detergent or fabric softener, pour the cup of vinegar in once your washer is full of water.
  2. Do a second cycle with normal detergent or 1/2 cup of baking soda. After washing your towels once with warm water and vinegar only, you can do another cycle with either a small amount of your normal detergent or ½ cup of baking soda. This will ensure your towels don’t have any lingering vinegar smell and add some extra softness to your towels.
  3. Put your towels in the dryer and dry completely. After the two wash cycles, move the towels to the dryer.  Tumble dry low until the towels are completely dry, and voila! Your towels should smell as good as new – and feel a bit softer, too.

How / why does this work?

White vinegar is an acid that kills mildew, mold and other bacteria. It also strips away any build-up left on towels from soaps and from using too much detergent. The baking soda is an extra step to neutralize any leftover smell from the vinegar. Baking soda also works as a natural fabric softener.

To prevent this mildew smell from happening the first step is making sure you're washing your Weezie products correctly. Head over to our blog post, "What is the best way to wash your towels?" for all of our tips and tricks on keeping your luxury towels as plush as when you first got them!
