Tell us about your journey into design! How did you begin your career as a designer?
Interior design is my second career. Because I moved a lot as a child and my mom loved to decorate our homes, it is something I have always loved and had a passion for. After working in the fashion industry for over 8 years, I decided to take a leap of faith in myself — I quit my job, went back to school at The New York School of Interior Design, and immediately started interning for residential design firms in NYC. It was an incredibly humbling and exhausting (but also rewarding!) experience. After several years working for others I officially went out on my own in 2020 and have not looked back since.
Your (designer) style icon?
The inimitable Suzanne Rheinstein, my sister-in-law Lauren Weiss, and my Mom
Where do you look to find inspo?
Travel, trips home to New Orleans, and (of course) Instagram. Lately I’ve been scouring old design books for inspiration, too.
Can you give us a glimpse into the process of bringing this beautiful bathroom together?
This bathroom was one of 8 we renovated in my client’s home — you should see the befores! Because it is connected to a little girl’s bedroom we knew we wanted the bathroom to be a colorful, girly jewel box. Caitlin’s wallpaper brought the floors — which are a striped penny tile in white, beige, and pink — to life while Julie Neill’s sconces complimented the Waterworks fixtures throughout the bathroom. And the Weezie towels, of course, added the perfect pop of whimsy and coral pink to the space.
The design brief:
-
Wallcovering: Flora by Caitlin McGauley via Temple Studio in NYC
-
Vanity: Custom built by Bakes and Kropp
-
Fixtures: Julie Neill for Visual Comfort with custom lampshades in Peter Dunham Fez fabric, which we used in the bedroom
-
Mirror: Restoration Hardware
-
Accessories: Weezie Towels, an Agra floral silver cup from Cece Barfield and vanity pulls from Matilda Goad
Before you go…
Favorite Weezie item? I could not live without my Weezie kitchen towels! I buy them in bulk and give them to everyone as a housewarming gift
What are you reading? The Wedding People by Alison Espach
Who are you following? I love following fellow designers who I have known one way or another for many (many!) years and others who have become trusted industry friends. Alex Wilson, Kylie Bass, and Emily Butler are just a few.
What’s next? Two renovations on the Upper East Side and a full home in New Canaan, Connecticut
Recent interiors splurge: I love splurging on photographs and art that are somehow connected to my hometown of New Orleans. I recently purchased a painting by Mary Ball, an artist my dad introduced me to.
Recent interiors steal: A Hickory Chair console I have always loved and found on 1stDibs
Recent Instagram saves: One of my Upper East Side projects is going to be quite modern so I am obsessed with finding unique pieces to include in the home. The Future Perfect and Tomas Graeff are two of my recent favorites.
