Designer Charlotte Lucas employed her unmatched attention to detail and creative spirit through the 2022 Southern Living Idea House. The result? A masterful mélange of color, texture, and pattern.

Tell us about your journey to interior design:

My mother is an interior designer so you could say it was in my DNA. We moved around every couple years growing up and my mother was constantly fixing up new houses for our family in each city. She was very hands on and allowed my sisters and me to be a part of that process to help make each new house a home. I have memories of stripping wallpaper, rag rolling walls and scouring fabric stores for the perfect toile fabric! I can still remember the smell of those wallpaper books we would look through for hours! I knew I wanted to be an interior designer as I entered The University of Georgia in 2000. After graduation I worked for many talented designers and eventually started my own business in 2012. This year marks a decade of Charlotte Lucas Design!

Your style in a few words:

I can sum it up in two words: never boring!

Your forever inspo:

Travel is the ultimate inspiration for me. I find that when I'm not surrounded by the pressure to design, that I'm flooded with new ideas and inspiration. My eyes become more open to my surroundings and the smallest details can provide the jump start to a beautiful new idea!

Before you go...

What’s next?

I’m thrilled to announce a collaboration I’m launching with Modern Matter Hardware. Many of the pieces from our collection can be seen in the Idea House. Same with my fabric and wallpaper line, House of Harris. We are launching some wonderful new products – from wallpaper to small, giftable items –  as well as a (top secret!) collaboration in the coming months. We cannot wait to reveal it all!

Recent interiors splurge: I’m planning a renovation at home as we speak and have grand plans for a new closet. Making that happen is the splurge!

Recent interiors steal: I recently had the privilege of attending a NYFW event with Brizo Faucets and was gifted a faucet from their collaboration with Jason Wu! Talk about a party favor!  (...Lol).

Recent Instagram saves:

I’m on a trellis kick right now! My saves are filled with all the trellis detail.
