Chicago-based interior designer, Alex Kaehler (@alexkaehlerdesign), creates gorgeous homes that are meant to be lived in. Her eclectic style keeps her designs interesting, mixing different time periods and aesthetics to create something entirely new.

Tell us about your journey to interior design.

I have loved interior design since I was a little girl. Always rearranging my room, requesting obscure paint colors and scouring the pages of furniture catalogs. For some reason I always thought it was a hobby, and not a career choice. After a short stint in marketing, I went to design school, started a blog and the rest is history.

Your style in a few words:

My interior style is collected, comfortable, colorful and personalized.

Your forever inspo:

My family. My parents, sisters and grandparents all love design. They all have incredibly different aesthetics, but seeing how they each translate that into their homes, is a forever source of inspiration for me.

You recently completed a fab powder bath and included some special Weezie pieces. Can you give us a glimpse into the process of bringing this beautiful space together?

My clients live in a 100 year old house, with so many beautiful original details, but this sweet little powder room was lacking any personality. The inspiration for the house was Wes Anderson’s movie sets. A mid-century leaning, lots of color, and some unexpected touches. So we infused the powder room with all of that! We changed out the floor to a zellige tile, painted the molding a bold, off black, wallpapered the room in a leopard paper and just really had fun with it all! The new Weezie collection was just the perfect cherry on top.

Amazing new construction urban home built to feel 100 year old (!!!), a vacation home on Nantucket (I don’t normally do things out of state, but this is a very special exception), new sprawling suburban farmhouse, and a whole bunch of amazing renovations. We are beyond excited for what 2022 is going to bring.
