Canadian interior designer Robyn Rider pairs a timeless foundation with bold, playful moments. She’s a firm believer that classic design, layered with color, is the key to a lasting look. See how it all comes together in the bathrooms of her Toronto home.

Your style icon:

My Mom! She has always had incredible taste.. I was fortunate to learn so much from her.. she used to let me “skip” school to go to interior showrooms… as a designer herself, she has always had an incredible sense of personal style when it came to interiors and, most importantly, taught me not to be afraid of colour, pattern and wallpaper!

Where do you look to find inspo:

I love to travel. Between ideas I see in hotels, shops, or glimpses into interiors around the world, travel always provides a fresh perspective on my process! I also love to look at street style for inspo, whether it be a playful take on scale, pattern mixing, interesting textures or colours, it can provide a great sense of inspiration!

Can you give us a glimpse into the process of bringing together this beautiful bathroom?

My biggest goal with any space bathroom I create is to keep the foundation as classic as possible.. I want spaces to stand the test of time. Renovations are expensive! Having fun with accessories, art and even a wallpaper is one thing, but foundations of bathrooms in my opinion always look best when they are clean.. a beautiful stone that isn’t too overpowering, but also not sterile… spaces should evoke an emotion- bathrooms are often the first place you enter when you wake up, and the last before bed.. so they should be equal parts joyful and relaxing.
