The Beach Towel, Explained: Cotton, Size & the Monogram That Makes It Yours

There's a version of summer where the towel is an afterthought — whatever's clean, whatever's closest to the door. And then there's the version where you grab the towel, the one that's soft enough for a nap, big enough to actually wrap up in, and unmistakably yours because your initials are stitched right into the corner. That's the towel we set out to make.

Here's what actually goes into it — no jargon, just the honest breakdown.

The Cotton: Why Turkish Cotton Is the Whole Point

Our beach towels start with 100% long-staple cotton, woven in Turkey. "Long-staple" just means the individual cotton fibers are longer than average — which sounds like a small detail until you feel the difference. Longer fibers spin into stronger, smoother yarn, so the towel holds up wash after wash instead of pilling and thinning out by August.

We also spin our cotton using a technique that traps tiny air pockets inside each fiber. That's the part that gives you the plush, fluffy hand-feel — and it's the same reason the towel dries you off faster and sheds up to 4x less lint than a standard towel. (If you've ever pulled a towel out of the dryer covered in fuzz, you know exactly what we mean.)

For the curious: our beach towels land in the mid-weight range — heavier than a flimsy drugstore towel, lighter than a heavy bath sheet, which is exactly the balance you want for something you're hauling to the sand, drying off with, and packing back up.

The Size: Big Enough to Actually Lie Down On

A beach towel that's too small is just a bigger washcloth. Ours is cut oversized — roughly 40" x 60" — so it works as a towel and a place to actually stretch out. We also cut it close, not baggy, so it doesn't drag through the sand and pick up more than it needs to.

If you want something lighter and more packable for travel, we also make a flatweave version with a plush terry back — same cotton, easier to fold into a beach bag.

The Monogram: The Part That Makes It Yours

This is where a beach towel stops being a towel and becomes your towel. Every Weezie beach towel can be personalized with:

  • Initials or a name — single letter, three-letter monogram, or a full name for kids' towels
  • Thread color — a full palette designed to coordinate with our stripe and pattern colorways, not just default white or navy
  • Placement — classic corner monogram, or centered for a statement look

It's a small detail that does a lot of work — at the pool, it means no more "wait, is this towel mine?" As a gift, it's the difference between a nice towel and a genuinely thoughtful one.

Turkish Cotton vs. the Alternatives

Quick gut-check if you're comparing options:

  • Cotton terry (ours): absorbent, plush, gets softer with every wash
  • Microfiber: dries fast, packs small, but doesn't have the same soft, substantial feel
  • Thin printed cotton: fine for a picnic blanket, not built for actual drying power

If you want something that feels like a hotel-quality towel and still dries you off in two passes, cotton terry is the one to reach for.

Bringing It Together

A great beach towel isn't complicated — it's long-staple Turkish cotton, cut generously, finished with a monogram that makes it unmistakably yours. That's the whole idea behind ours.
